The anime series, toward the terra is originally a science fiction manga written by Keiko Takemiya and is first released in 1977. A movie is later adapted following the end of the manga series in 1980. 27 years later, news on the remake of the series is released in the form of an anime directed by Osamu Yamazaki.

In the far future, humanity has left behind an environmentally destroyed Terra and began colonization in order to reproduce their home. Humanity, now ruled by a super computer that controls the birth of children, sees the emergence of a new race called the "Mu". The Mu, now hidden from the rest of humanity, have one dream, to return home, to Terra...

There are many reasons as to why one should love and hate the series. For one, the main character, Jomy Mark Shin (later known as Soldier Shin) can be considered as a spoilt brat especially in the earlier episodes. However, as the series progressed, thanks to the awesome character development, one would find that he is actually likable.

Another reason can be accounted from the confusion in the various plot twists. There are vague details as to how the story will progress and watchers will find it hard to keep up with the story some time due to the little details given on the Mu's past and their objective "Terra". However, this, at the same time is what made the series special and addictive.

This series, in my opinion is being under rated mostly due to the slow flow of the story in the first 10 episodes. Even till the 10th episodes, there was little character development and the story doesn't seem to be going anywhere. However, only those who continued watching the series would be rewarded by the sudden twist in the plot. Even through halfway of the series, there are still little clues on how the story would actually progress even after all the intensifying moments.

The series has recently been licensed by the company's US counterpart, Bandai and would soon be airing in American TV.
